Last updated 30 September 2026. Your information is used to run Crewdar and to help you find work or crew. We never sell it, and we never give your profile, CV or documents to advertisers.
These hold for everyone who uses Crewdar: crew, vessel managers and service providers.
We collect what you give us to build your profile or post a job, and a little about how you use Crewdar.
| Information | Examples | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account details | Name, email, phone number, sign-in method (Apple, Google or email) | To create your account and keep it secure |
| Your profile | Photo, CV, positions, experience, qualifications and certificates, languages, visas, availability, gallery | To match you with the right jobs or crew |
| Details you choose to add | Nationality, date of birth, gender, smoker, visible tattoos, vaccination or criminal-record declarations | Only to match you to roles that ask for them. Always optional, and you can remove them at any time |
| Identity check | A photo of your ID document and a face scan | To confirm you are who you say you are |
| Jobs and vessels | Job descriptions, requirements, vessel details, your team | To publish jobs and find matching crew |
| References | People you've worked with who confirm your experience | To verify experience |
| Messages and calls | Chats, and calls made in the app | To deliver them |
| Location | Your location, if you allow it | To show jobs and crew nearby |
| Payments | Subscription status. Card details are handled by Apple, Google or our payment provider; we never see them | To give you the plan you paid for |
| How you use Crewdar | Screens and pages viewed, buttons tapped, which link or ad brought you to us, device and app version, crash reports. Never what you type | To fix problems, improve Crewdar and know which of our adverts work |
We use your information to run Crewdar and to make it better, and for nothing else.
| What we do | Why we're allowed to |
|---|---|
| Run your account, match crew to jobs, deliver messages, calls and notifications | It's the service you signed up for |
| Check identities, qualifications and experience | Keeping Crewdar genuine protects everyone (our legitimate interest). The face scan is used only with your consent |
| Use the optional details you add | Your consent, which you can withdraw by removing them |
| Keep Crewdar safe: stop fraud, fake accounts and misuse | Our legitimate interest |
| Improve the app and website, fix problems, and measure which of our adverts work | Our legitimate interest |
| Send you job alerts and updates | The service you signed up for. You choose how often, and every email has an unsubscribe link |
| Keep the records the law and the MLC require | Legal obligation |
Automated tools, including AI, help us read CVs and certificates, suggest matches and summarise candidates. They help people decide; they don't decide for them. Vessel managers make every hiring decision, and you can ask us to review anything an automated check got wrong.
Other members, only when you choose. A vessel manager sees your profile once you register interest in their role. Service providers see only what you share with them, and people you message see your messages. If you give a reference, the person it's about can see your name and what you wrote.
Trusted providers who help us run Crewdar. For example: secure hosting, identity verification, email and push notifications, payments, AI tools that read CVs and certificates, crash reporting, app analytics and advert measurement. They may use your information only to provide that service to us, never for their own purposes.
Our team, when they need to: for example, to help you with a support request or to keep the platform safe.
The law. If we're legally required to, for example by a court order. We'd share only what the order requires.
Your information is stored in the European Union, in Ireland. Everything sent between your device and Crewdar is encrypted, and only the people who need access to do their job have it.
Some of our providers are based outside the UK and EU, for example in the United States. When information goes to them, it's protected by the legal safeguards UK and EU law require, such as the standard contract terms approved for these transfers.
Cookies: the Crewdar website doesn't use advertising cookies. The web app stores only what it needs to keep you signed in.
We keep your information while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, documents and messages. ID check images are deleted within 48 hours.
We keep a small amount for longer only where the law requires it: a record of the jobs and placements we've handled for one year after we last work with you, as UK MLC rules require, and payment records for six years for tax.
It's your information. You can:
Email privacy@crewdar.com and we'll reply within one month. If you're unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or the data protection authority where you live.
Age: Crewdar is for people aged 18 and over.
Changes: if we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
